Here’s the skinny…

Hi! I’m Mikey McCorry and I am a web developer specialising in delivering best-practice web development techniques, projects and news. I’m based in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia, however my clients include everyone from local schools and businesses in Shepparton, to large enterprises based in country Victoria, Melbourne and Sydney, and even the odd multi-national. (Check out some of the testimonials from my awesome clients.)

This website is not only a means to advertise my services, but it’s also a place where I’m free to write about the stuff I’m passionate about, such as responsive web design, web development, SEO, accessibility, mobile application and website development and whatever else takes my fancy.

I founded Mad Web Skills back in 2001 as a freelance web development studio, combining my love of creating simple, beautiful and accessible websites with a standards-based ideology.

I also have a wife, a kid and a dog.

Stuff you probably need to know.

I work full-time for local government during the day but in my spare time I create beautiful websites and brilliant web applications for my clients as a freelancer. Even if you have the budget to hire a larger design agency, there are a number of advantages to hiring an independent freelance web developer such as myself.

  1. 1.

    Personalised care every step of the way from the person actually building your website, not just a salesperson, account manager or creative director.

  2. 2.

    The web: it’s what I do. Many design agencies are simply graphic print designers that dabble in the web, or outsource their development to freelancers like me. Why not cut out the middle men?

  3. 3.

    Over 25 years of experience in the web industry; and that’s all me, baby! Not like how some agencies add up the years of experience of their whole team to say something like “20 years of combined experience”? Pshh…

  4. 4.

    I work full-time during the day, so unfortunately I may not have as many hours in the day to devote to your project as a larger agency, however the time I spend is focused on your project alone, not spread thinly between many jobs. This means a much higher quality end result for you than those agencies that pump out boring, cookie-cutter websites.

  5. 5.

    Working from home in regional Victoria, I don’t have the overheads of a larger agency, and can focus on delivering the best value for your business.

  6. 6.

    Seriously, I’ve been doing this a long time. I know my stuff. :)

I've got some more useful info on my FAQs page if you want to know more.

What I can offer for your business.

I specialise in web design and web application development with a focus on usability, accessibility, web standards and content management systems (CMS). I have developed many custom-built web applications for my clients, as well as my own powerful CMS products to power everything from large, national enterprise websites to local businesses here in Shepparton.

I am also an accomplished designer who can:

Design you a brand-spankin' new website, with all the bells and whistles or just the bare essentials;

Work with you to redesign or improve your old, out-dated website design;

Develop a custom web application to automate or improve your business processes;

Provide expert knowledge about search engine optimisation, online marketing, and more.

I have a wide range of expert resources and professional contacts I can draw from in the fields of marketing, print, design, signage, photography, copy-writing and more.

My Philosophy.

With every project, I use proven design techniques to solve problems and communicate messages effectively.

Building a website which adheres to web standards means using valid, structured code that looks great on modern web browsers yet still perfectly usable on older ones. Your website will have improved accessibility to all visitors, regardless of the user’s browser, device or ability.
